Yesterday I was lucky enough to have a phone chat with the lovely Jennifer Aspen, who is know no way like Kendra, the character she plays on Glee. We talked about how Terri and Kendra should have their own web series, the explosive new plot line Terri and Kendra have, what Matthew Morrison is like and more!

Below are some questions. The rest will appear in the book Don’t Stop Believin: The Unofficial Guide to Glee, which will hit shelves in September 2010!

Do you enjoy playing such a conniving and crazy person?

I love being Kendra. She’s crazy and she’s totally knows it. With her, I completely become her. Once I get into the wardrobe, it’s like I flip a switch and I’m a nut. Her wardrobe is insane, so it makes for a great gateway. It’s incredibly fun and there’s a lot of freedom with a character like Kendra. You can say anything and it works. It’s so easy to riff off the character and improvise.

Is there anything you improvised that made it into the show?

I have a confession. It’s terrible. I don’t watch myself. I find it too difficult. I watched the first episode I was in and was like, okay, that’s going well. It’s like watching yourself in home movies. You’re too embarrassed and it’s difficult to see it objectively. As long as I’m getting the direction I need on set, I don’t see the need to watch the final product. I hear some of the stuff Jessalyn and I said in Dr. Wu’s office made it in.

What’s next for Kendra? Will we see more of her in the second half of the season?

Oh goodness, when this storyline breaks, everyone’s jaw is going to drop. Terri has moved in with Kendra and what goes down, just wow. I can’t tell you much, but it’s amazing. I don’t even understand how the writers came up with this storyline. It’s so insane. The audience won’t believe it. There’s a huge storyline coming down the pipe with Kendra, Terri and another character. It’s salacious and is going to take everyone by surprise. There’s a lot of potential with Kendra, though, so it’s exciting to see where the writers will take there. There’s a lot of ideas that never made the show. For example, for a while Kendra was going to hook up with the ob-gyn. Not only would this help Terri with her pregnancy, it would help Kendra because the ob-gyn is successful. She’d totally leave her husband for that. But that never happened and isn’t going to happen. But it’s fun hearing about these ideas and seeing what makes the cut and what doesn’t.

You spend a lot of time on screen with Jessalyn. What’s it like to work with her?

Jessalyn and I have the funnest relationship. We have this thing were we one-up each other. It’s hilarious. It’s not diva like you want to throw up on us. We’re jokingly being divas with each other. It’s really fun and we get along great.

Glee scored a lot of amazing guest stars. Who would you like to see guest star on Glee?

We have so many amazing guest stars! This is a question I get asked a lot, but it’s so difficult to answer. There’s so many rumors about who is coming on the show and who isn’t. I heard about Justin Timberlake and I have no idea where that rumor came from. It definitely wasn’t from the writers. But if Justin Timberlake comes on the show, I’m going to be a mess. A mess. Of those who aren’t going to be on the show, Rihanna would be amazing. Or Beyonce. She dances like a sick fiend.

What’s the best part about being on Glee?

I definitely looked for a long time for something special and different. When I first read the script, I knew that’s what it was and that’s what I was looking for. I was literally like “I’m going to shoot this pilot, its’ going to be huge a huge hit and it’s going to win every award.” We’re doing something that’s broken through so many walls and expanded what television to be. Also, I think what the fans are doing is amazing. It’s really incredible when we have that many people when they love it and there’s such a vibrant community surrounding the show. It’s really special.

Thanks for talking to us, Kendra! I cannot wait until the back nine and see what Kendra and Terri have up their sleeve!
