The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has selected eight great shows that explore issues about diversity, accessibility and more. On the list? Why, Glee of course! The episode “Wheels” (one of the show’s best and Ryan Murphy’s personal favorite) tackled all kinds of diversity and accessibility issues with heart and humor.
Joining our fave musical are the HBO film Taking Chance about escorting fallen soliders remains home from Iraq, HBO’s documentary Grandpa, Do You Know Who I Am, about dealing with a grandparent’s Alheizmer’s disease, National Geographic Television’s Inside Death Row, which followed prison inmates and their families in Texas, Private Practice, CSI, Discovery Health’s Unlocking Autism documentary, and Current TV’s Vanguard: The OxyContin Express about drug abuse.
These shows’ creators will be honored at the Beverly Hills Hotel on May 5th! Congrats!

Lou Eyrich, the genius behind the clothes on Glee, won her category at the Costume Designers Guild Awards last night. Lou took home the prize for costume design for Oustanding Contemporary Television Series, beating out the designers for Big Love, Dancing With the Stars, No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency and Ugly Betty. You can see the complete list of winners here.
The clothes on Glee are gorgeous and say so much about the characters. Lou creates a colorful, magical world and cleverly plays up the characters’ plot lines, character flaws and relationships in her clothing choices. Jayma and Jessalyn were on-hand to celebrate Lou’s win! The real-life friends presented the award for Outstanding Period/Fantasy Television Series.
Congrats, Lou!

Last night, the men behind the camera got a chance to shine at the Directors Guild of America Awards. Ryan Murphy was nominated for “Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series” for his work on the Glee pilot and Paris Barclay grabbed a nom for “Wheels.” Both men lost out to Jason Weiner for the pilot episode of Modern Family. See the complete list of winners here.
Despite the loss, the cast was a major win on the red carpet! Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele were presenters last night. Lea oozed sophistication in a nude dress and red lips where Matt opted for a modern tuxedo. Jesslany came out to support Ryan too and looked fantastic in a strapless gold dress. None of the other cast members made it out, which is too bad. I love seeing the cast dressed up!
Be sure to tune into the Grammys tonight! Lea is a presenter!

Glee won the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series SAG Award last night. Amazing, amazing stuff. One of my favorite parts of winning an awards are the awesome backstage photos that are taken of the winners with their trophies. They always look so thrilled and happy.
Here are some great photos of the Glee cast from last night. I’m so glad that the supporting players like Harry, Heather, Patrick, Dijon and Naya got to attend and celebrate with the rest of the cast!
